How updating a digital Gantt chart without validating physical field readiness halted framing crews and caused severe trade sequencing conflicts.

The Handoff Failure
During the transition from structural completion to MEP rough-ins, the scheduling team updated the master schedule to show that electrical conduit installation was 85% complete. However, this update was made purely based on administrative reports, ignoring a critical physical dependency: the overhead concrete slab had not been fully cured or sealed, and the secondary steel support brackets were still missing. Without these physical elements in place, the electrical subcontractor could not physically anchor their conduit runs along the designated pathways.
The scheduler, working from an off-site office, updated the project management platform to trigger the next trade's mobilization. This automated notification went to the drywall and framing subcontractor, informing them that their start window was open. When the framing crew arrived on site, they found the overhead areas completely empty of electrical infrastructure. Since they could not build the partition walls before the primary conduit runs were secured, the entire trade sequence ground to a halt, leaving crew members idle and causing immediate friction.
